Customer: Richard Wright

Lives in: New York

Vehicle: 1935 EB 1/2 Ton Chevrolet High Roof Pickup

How long have you owned this vehicle?
I have owned this vehicle since March 2009.

Where did you get this vehicle? What is the story behind the vehicle?
I had a 1935 truck in 1965--age 21. Photo #1 Photo #2 . My brother asked me if I used to own a 1935 and I said, "Yes." He knew of one for sale about 40 miles from me and wanted me to look at it. I did and ended up purchasing it. My first 1935 I sold after 3 years and then 44 years later I bought this one.

What condition was the truck in when you got it?
This truck was in pretty bad condition. Photo #3 Photo #4 Photo #5 Photo #6 Photo #7

What work have you done on this vehicle?
I did a complete restoration. Body off the frame, all body panels and frame sandblasted to bare metal. After the body panel repairs, there were three coats of primer, and re-assembled for body fit. It was then taken completely apart. All the parts were painted separately and re-assembled again. The engine was rebuilt with complete cotton wiring used. There was a new clutch, brakes, front end rebuilt, interior re-done and all wood in body and doors replaced and wood bed replaced in oak. I purchased new white wall tires and the wheels were powder coated. I had new bumpers installed. There was all new glass, new radiator, grille and hub caps.

Is there any other work that you would like to do?
No, there is no additional work I would like to do on this truck.

What were the hardest parts to find?

1. The upper windshield hinge was missing.
2. Enclosed drive shaft, front U-joint, collar rear seal. All were too big or too small. The Filling Station's tech advisor sent me a 1/4" round O-ring that fit perfectly and no leaks.
3. Ignition coil with proper steel wire housing to the ignition switch--anti-theft housing.
4. Pressure plate.
5. Steel fenders, Chevy bow tie emblem that goes on the radiator shell.

What other vehicles do you own?
I own a 2012 Chevy Colorado pickup.

What is your next project?
I do not have any other projects. I started this restoration in 2009 at the age of 65 and finished it in 2013 at the age of 69. Too old. I may consider buying a late 1940 or early 1950 Chevy in good shape.

Do you have any advice for people thinking about doing a restoration project?
Yes, be patient, be a good "bloodhound" finding parts. Take your time and do it right and do not cut corners. Do research to keep it original. Have plenty of time and deep pockets money wise--it is expensive to do it right. Got to love hard work and a desire to make your restoration come back to life.
